Swiss firm Think Architecture has designed ‘House For An Art Collector’, a private gallery space and residential property located in Zurich, Switzerland, that is exactly as its title suggests.
The monochrome interior encompasses a living space for the collector, a guest apartment, and a private gallery. Conceived mainly from concrete, steel, and glass, the series of spaces were left deliberately as a blank canvas to allow the art speak for itself. The ground floor features terrazzo concrete, while upstairs features smooth running concrete interspersed by an oak wood floor pattern. Floor to ceiling glass windows draw attention to natural light throughout the residence. The stainless steel kitchen has a stylish, essentialist aesthetic, and can be hidden behind chrome steel curtains when not in use. The exterior facade achieves a harmony of materiality; whereby layered volumes of concrete, glass, and metal in muted beige tones, complement one another. The considered use of these three materials is an epitomized example of the pared-back architecture that Switzerland has become renowned for.
