Studio Massa’s new store is located in Moema, São Paulo, by Renata Brennand, a designer from Recife. An old house that had already undergone major transformations, when we first got there it was still a clothing store, with fitting rooms, segmented layout and almost no natural lighting, we intervened in the property to make it more spacious and bright to house the furniture that is mostly colorful and vibrant. And to highlight these pieces the entire store was “washed” in white. Creating spaces that would contrast and mark the silhouettes of the furniture on display.
There are approximately 100m² with flexible layout to exhibit the furniture, the only fixed area is the central volume that includes a restroom, pantry and cabinets in a metal panel made of perforated metallic plates. Some cabinets were designed for the service area and the pantry, made in apparent pine plywood. And speaking of apparent, all the walls, pillars and beams were peeled and painted white, as were all the walls. In some spots the original brickwork appears, which was also painted white. As well as all the electrical and hydraulic piping. All the imperfections of the construction were kept, because we wanted to do as little as possible to the existing construction.
From the side wall to the inside of the store, a wall of white tiles invades the store and serves as an invitation to people passing by on the street. In the best “unfinished” style, the panel brings a touch of flair to the new space. The final touch is the door handles as well as the ones at the entrance of the store, which were developed from the handles of the Ear Tray, one of Studio Massa’s registered trademarks.
