The project, result of the partnership between DWA studio from Milan and Spectacularch! studio from Bergamo, is one of the five winning projects in the category ‘Spaces’ of the Interieur Awards, a competition held directly by the Biennale with entries from 80 designers and 18 countries. The bistrobar is the result of the creative partnership between Alberto Artesani and Frederik De Wachter of DWA studio in Milan, and Sandra Marchesi and Francesca Perani of Speclacularch studio in Bergamo.

“Dried Chat Room”’s concept stands for its strong eclectic characterization owing to the food type chosen as identifying element of the space: smoked food, dried, dehydrated, salted, coming from multiple cultures and traditions. This kind of food, favoured particularly in traditional nomadic cultures, could today be offered up again in a contemporary context.

The decision of developing the concept of food and design together was crucial. “Dried Chat Room” represents a contemporary, necessary attitude towards our heritage. This combination links contemporary attitudes and appreciation of traditional low energy cooking and food preservation methods.

The space is designed following the same radical, dry philosophy recommending the use of minimum resources for the best result; unusual, affordable materials are reinvented in a surprising way and presented as a key part of the eating and socialising experience. Common materials with strong textures are transformed into strong emotions.

A golden ceiling made by shimmering sheets, a spontaneous arrangement of embracing furniture, grey styrofoam tables, plastic garden chairs embellished with recycled felt fabrics: these are the elements that give the guests the feeling of eating and chatting in a room illuminated by its own light, informal and yet so very precious.
