Cafe CROSS has been built in a residential area of the suburbs. With its dynamic shed roof that strengthens impressiveness, the façade looks like a hall or a church, making the building something like a sign. Whereas in the inside, natural light is utilized in the minimal space to provide subtle appearance.

At the back stands the tall wall, which is furnished with a bench seat inside, and is extended to the outside with a large glass screen in between. The wall is sprayed with stucco in such a manner as action painting, making it look like a canvas of an abstract art piece.

The fluctuating light coming from the sidelight projects delicate scenes on the wall to invite one’s consciousness to the depth of imagination. The glass screen that reflects the ever-changing sky condition quietly provides visual expanse and natural beauty. What enriches the space of the café is not the expensive materials or novel products, but the rendering by light and shadow. It is hoped that the cafe will be accepted by the community as “the healing place”.
