The apartment, located in the southern part of the city of São Paulo, was designed following two main guidelines; integrate the spaces according to the clients’ wishes and bring clarity into the project, which originally had spaces with little incidence of natural light.

Based on these guidelines, the project, a collaboration between two offices from São Paulo (SOEK Arquitetura and VOA Arquitetura) was developed by relocating the toilet and integrating one of the bedrooms and the kitchen to the living room. The continuity of the environments was given by the wooden floor that also enters the kitchen, interrupted only by the workbench, where an island was made with the same hydraulic tile that covers the wall of the workbench.

In the living room and bedrooms, the walls were stripped down to show the brick and concrete elements from the original construction of the building, which cover the building’s façade. Next to these, bookshelves, shelves, and a sideboard made of metalwork were placed, which, due to their lightness, are in the background in relation to the aforementioned materials.

The balcony of the apartment was, at the client’s request, a place of attention. The canopy of trees on the apartment’s level gives the balcony a pleasant atmosphere, which has become one of, if not the couple’s main living areas. On it was built a black granite countertop with a plate and a sink. The floor, in Portuguese mosaic (typical coating of the city sidewalks) was made to characterize the feeling of outdoor space.
