The search to build continuities is inevitable when it comes to renovating a Modern Architecture Heritage Site in the city of São Paulo. We had only two months to remodel the apartment in the Edifício Prudência, designed by São Paulo architect Rino Levi in the 1940s. The apartment had already been through some renovations and now it was necessary to open a bedroom to the living room and build three bathrooms where before there was only one.
原始项目的特点之一是在宽敞的房间内进行功能分区。随着时间的推移，生活方式的转变，因此，这个单位和其他单位所经历的许多改革都是在由于功能的减少而开放这些环境。
One of the characteristics of the original project is the compartmentalization of functions in generously scaled environments. As time goes by, the ways of living change, and therefore many of the renovations that this and other apartments have gone through have been in the sense of opening up these environments due to the reduction of functions.

The demand to open one of the bedrooms to the living room follows this transformation and seemed to us opportune to increase the ventilation and natural luminosity to the corridor that gives access to the bedrooms and the kitchen. However, we realized that when opening generous scaled environments we have to be careful that the generosity doesn’t get out of control and the human scale escapes.
受建筑外墙上的黄色锁的启发，我们决定将它们延续到公寓里，以便重新构成新的环境。正是通过这种线性建筑元素的插入，校准了建筑环境的规模、通道、亲密性和功能，改造项目得以实现。
Informed by the yellow locks on the building’s façade, we decided to continue them into the apartment in order to recompose the new environments. It is through this insertion of a linear architectural element that calibrates the scale, access, intimacy, and functions of the built environments that the renovation project is realized.
