The description of this renovation project should begin with the building itself: of brutalist architecture, the building was designed in 1973 with apartments in modular structures characterized by the repetition of concrete arches throughout the spaces. Very particular, this composition highlights the frames that rise from floor to ceiling in most of the room and create a nuance between structure and landscape – two elements impossible to be forgotten when designing the interiors.

该单位以前曾进行过一次整修，整个单位用石膏衬里凹进去，隐藏了结构的拱门。同样，80%的框架（从地板到天花板）也被石膏覆盖–上下固定的玻璃窗格被隐藏起来，只留下可以打开的玻璃，让光线进入。

The unit had previously gone through a renovation and the entire apartment had been lowered with plaster lining, which hid the arches of the structure. Along the same lines, 80% of the frames (floor-to-ceiling) had also been covered with plaster – the upper and lower fixed glass panes were hidden, with only the glass that opens to let in the light remaining visible.

After defining the aesthetics to be achieved, the next step was to adapt the rooms – in the original plan there were only two suites, which were transformed into three, expanding the master suite, with a master and a mistress bath – and also to structure the installations according to the needs of modern life. The air conditioning, automation, and lighting pipes made it necessary to keep the plaster ceiling in some areas to a minimum. This allowed us to keep the slab exposed in most of the master suite and in the social area, where the frames are one-piece floor-to-ceiling.

When discussing the terms of the project, the couple informed that they intended to receive and cook for friends on weekends, a situation that presupposed the integration of the dining room with the living room. This integration could not be absolute, however, due to the fact that the couple had two children and two employees during the weekdays.

Based on this information, a countertop was designed with a stove that has several functions and is considered the “heart of the house”: it serves as a meeting place with friends on weekends and where everyone has their meals on weekdays. The use is absolutely organic.

另一个重要的建议是，如果孩子们的节目与成人不同，私密的房间可以与社交区隔离，以便独立使用–或者甚至在看电视的时候进行简单的声音隔绝。这个问题通过安装嵌入大厅箱体的滑动门得到了解决，在需要对环境进行分隔的情况下，滑动门可以根据居民的意愿保持隔离。

Another important recommendation was that the intimate room could be isolated from the social area for independent use if the children were to have different programming from the adults – or even for simple acoustic isolation during television sessions. This issue was solved with the installation of sliding doors that are embedded in the joinery of the hall’s box, which maintain the isolation depending on the will of the residents in situations where the compartmentalization of environments is necessary.

In the decoration of the apartment, the hardness of the exposed concrete was softened by elements from nature. With the removal of the plaster and the appearance of the window frames, the treetops around the building could be seen from inside the living room. At the same time, the large planter along the entire length of the main façade allowed the creation of a garden practically inside the apartment. Inside, shades of green, natural wood and straw came together to warm up the concrete and bring the outside closer. The white walls add plasticity to the color palette and give an air of art gallery as they host the owners’ collection of paintings.

该公寓是对巴西、其自然和建筑生产的致敬。它是热带雨林和野蛮主义之间的温柔调情–这两个运动长期以来一直很成功。

The apartment is a tribute to Brazil, its nature, and its architectural production. It is a gentle flirtation between Tropicália and Brutalism – two movements that have long been successful.
