With an Open Space

With an Open Space is a minimal office renovation located in Osaka, Japan, designed by Tsubasa Iwahashi Architects. The renovation encompassed the 7th, 8th and 10th floors of the office building. After removing the ceiling and the partition to arrange the equipment, the curtain wall of the window, which was hidden because it was divided into small rooms, appeared. For the first time, the architect saw the large window and wanted to make it a place where meetings and work could be held in natural light.
The 7th and 8th floors are the rental office floors. The area that continues from the corridor has been widely left as a common area. On the 7th floor, a large cloth (approximately 26m when spread) was hung on the square. Partitioning with that cloth creates a space that can be used while taking in the natural light and isolated from the square. The designers hoped that it would be used by a large number of people, such as workshops and lectures, while being wrapped in soft light.
On the 8th floor, to resemble the square outdoors, they made a small hut. The hut and its surroundings have a relationship and can be used freely. Various plans are held, with shops coming in and out of the building. In the common area, large shelves and work tables were prepared. They hoped that attractive books and objects would be collected with knowledge being shared and accumulated.
