A jovial, cozy and functional apartment are the main characteristics of the 44m² environment – Jabuticaba Studio, signed by Nildo José, a new promise of Brazilian architecture that, at only 27 years of age, debuts at Casa Cor São Paulo, held from May 17 to July 10, at the Jockey Club São Paulo. The name chosen for the environment is in honor of a fruit tree suspended by steel cables and wrapped by the Japanese technique calledkokedama.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the show and under the theme Life is a Party, Nildo had as a starting point the creation of a bench that ran through the four corners of the space. Besides the question of working with a striking and multifunctional element, the architect sought the idea that the concrete furniture embedded in the wall “always fits one more.

“In a good party, there is always room for one more. The important thing is the spirit of fraternization among family and friends. The idea of the bench makes a direct analogy with the spirit of Casa Cor’s three-decade anniversary. There is no exact limit to the number of people sitting here in the space, there is always room for one more!”, jokes architect Nildo José. Adhering to numerous roles and functions throughout the studio, the bench at the entrance takes the place of a hat stand, inspired by New York lofts, with support for bags, hats and personal objects of the visitors. Next, the furniture becomes a shopping support, where a parked bicycle and a basket of products humanize the project.

Following into the environment, you pass by the conceptual bar, also supported by the bench, with Maple wood boxes designed by the architect himself – the same as the floor -, which house cups, various bottles of drinks and laboratory glassware garnered by Nildo in the Bixiga neighborhood. The same boxes, as well as the concrete seat, permeate other environments of the project. “The boxes are versatile and, therefore, gain various uses, such as bar boxes, support for decorative objects, such as the Acierno ceramics and, in the bathroom, used to support the bathrobe,” explains the professional.

Following the sequence of the bench, right in front, the furniture serves as two seats for the dining table (Breton). In this space, it gains two cushions for back support. The dining room also has a Jorge Zalzuspin chair (supplied by Etel) and a stool (Dpot), signed by Claudia Moreira Salles. The stool also serves as a fireplace wood support and functions on the other side as a side table for the Natuzzi sofa as a book support. After going through all this, the furniture finally assumes its exclusive function of being a bench, until it reaches the bedroom, where it takes its turn as a bedside table, also signed by the young architect, exclusive to Codex Home.

To finish, the piece works as a towel rack in the bathtub area.
The bathroom draws attention for being a black box lined with eban wood, with a concrete interior in the Mr. Cryll (Bricolagem Brasil) finish. The countertop is produced in Dekton Consentino Kairos – Silestone’s finish, executed by Mont Blanc Marble, which perfectly reproduces the Carrara marble, the Doka bathtub and Deca sanitary ware.

The works of art are a chapter apart in this contemporary studio. The curatorship was done by the architect himself, via Instagram and visits to galleries; therefore, there are new and talented artists little known by the general public mixed with established names: Gil Vicente, Alexandre Matos, Martin Parr, Guilherme Licurgo, Sergio Lucena – among others. Names of national design are also present in the space, such as Jader Almeida and Carol Gay. Another highlight of the environment is the wall lamp, (collection of the architect) with Le Corbusier’s signature.
