The project consists of the renovation of a 65 m2 apartment in a 1970s building in the city center. Faced with the rapid real estate speculation suffered in Madrid in recent years, the dwelling moves away from connotations derived from market logics and proposes a flexible system, capable of evading prefixed and conventional conditioning factors.

The project is understood as an indifferent spatial system, independent of the context in which it is located, thus continuing the spatial research of Casa Ronda. A system that is conceptually generic and at the same time spatially specific, that annuls any relation to the perimeter, the program and the orientation of the space. Only the appearance of a series of elements, such as the fireplace or the kitchen unit, brings us back to the place where we are and generates a visual reference.

The original space is divided into four symmetrical rooms of 3.5×3.5m generating a spatial isotropy only unbalanced by the entry of natural light. The rooms are connected by large central openings that articulate them spatially and visually. In one of them we find an opening that takes us to a place we cannot access. It is the reflection of our own space, shown in a mirrored surface that generates a spatial fiction that amplifies while distorting the limits of the house.

The materials are simple and direct. The floor abstracts the traditional terracotta tile, so common in the collective imagination, with the use of a large format linoleum, reducing the sense of scale in space. The ceiling, made of plastic enamel, is simple and direct, amplifying the brightness and colors present in the house, while the cooking space is covered with stainless steel, reflecting the shades of colors and changing lights during the day.
