The renovated 140 m² apartment is from the Louveira building, from 1946, signed by Vilanova Artigas and Carlos Cascaldi, whose project was guided by respect and dialogue with the building’s original aesthetics. Designed by Ana Sawaia, the renovation took Artigas’ architectural conception into consideration.

The apartment, designed with three bedrooms by the duo of architects, now has one large bedroom, for the couple who live there. In addition to the two bedrooms transformed into one, the third bedroom was opened to the living room, where the dining room is located. Its two pillars support a metallic structure designed to support a buffet.

A concrete partition, 2.20 meters high, defines the space between the living room and the kitchen, with a horizontal glass opening that frames the view to the Pacaembu valley. The window frames were painted ochre, the same color as the façade, and the kitchen floor has the same material as the floor of Louveira’s outdoor area – a matte green porcelain tessellation.

The office, integrated to the living room, is delimited by the white iron bookcase, which unfolds 2.20 meters high, as if it were origami, until it reaches the TV room wall, where 7 metal shelves house the collection of 2,000 CDs of the residents.

In the bathroom, we used hydraulic tile with a design by Artigas himself, made as a study of floor layout for the Casa dos Triângulos.

The couple’s bathroom, also with hydraulic tile, has a reading area, a box with a garden and a small dry sauna. The closet divides the bathroom from the bedroom only by cabinets, without masonry.

The floor of the apartment, made of perobinha parquet, preserves, although new, the same pattern and size as the original.

The doors to the kitchen and service area were made of iron and glass, and follow the same design as the window frames in the facade.

Besides furniture pieces designed by Ana Sawaia, the Louveira apartment has furniture by Paulo Alves, Estúdio Artigas, Ricardo Bueno, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Fernando Jaeger, and Marcel Breuer.

Furniture and pieces of affective value for the couple are in harmony with works of art, especially those by Gilvan Samico, Iberê Camargo, Daniel Sambo-Richter, Vania Toledo, Burle Marx, Francisco Brennand, Lasar Segall, Claudio Edinger, Cássio Vasconcelos, and master craftsmen from Ilha do Ferro.
