Architecture and furniture project for an apartment remodeling in the Aclimação neighborhood, SãoPaulo-SP.

At the main access, a shoe rack was requested for the removal of shoes upon entering – an act that had been a habit of the couple for some time. With this, an area similar to a Japanese genkan was configured, but without the difference in level with the wooden floor, with a square format and in green granilite [the same used in the kitchen]. Because of the prominent position, the necessary expansion joints in the granilite were also arranged in a special way, with a double square – the smaller one parallel to the walls inserted into a larger, twisted one.

The shoe rack volume, closed with straw screen doors to ensure permanent ventilation inside, is also composed of a small sideboard niche and a stool to assist in shoemaking. The opposite side of the volume, facing the area between the living room and the kitchen, received glass doors and is used as a glass case.

The bedrooms were kept with specific occupations for each environment: office, tatami room, and couple’s bedroom. In the office, the colorful woodwork sets up the work area with two workstations, as well as a high bench in the center for manual work. The tatami room was occupied only with low furniture, based on the dimensions of the 3 tatami pieces on the floor that make up the space. The couple’s bedroom, despite having been made smaller to favor the bathroom, maintains a comfortable area. Besides the closets, the headboard and the double bed were also designed, made of solid jequitibá.

The corridor between the living room and the intimate area, previously quite dark, was partially dismantled, replacing part of the wall with a wood element. The living room furniture is integrated to this element, consisting basically of a low bookcase with sliding doors, which were designed with reference to the image of Japanese hoji. This low furniture leaves the living room free and extends to the kitchen.
